Pemba Island is located around 50 km north of Unguja. It is fertile and dominated by small-scale agriculture, with rice, coconuts, bananas, cassava, and red beans.
The island is known for its clove plantations and for important towns including Chake-Chake, Mkoani, and Wete.
Pemba is also known for marine biodiversity and pristine coral areas, especially around Misali Island, with rich fish and sea turtle life for diving and snorkeling experiences.
